Vivo X Fold6 Review: Finally, Foldable Cameras That Don't Suck

An 8.02-inch internal display and a massive circular camera module make Vivo's latest foldable a heavy beast that actually delivers on photography. If you can live with the extra wrist strain and MediaTek performance unknowns, it beats every rival shooter in

At 8.02 inches diagonally, the internal display of the Vivo X Fold6 sets the stage for a device that tries to balance tablet-sized workspace with the realities of everyday pocket carry. Foldables have spent years asking buyers to pay a premium for the privilege of owning a device that bends, while quietly asking them to lower their expectations elsewhere. Photography, endurance, and ergonomics usually get sacrificed, but Vivo's latest flagship wants to change that equation.

Vivo has clearly decided that if a design works, there is little point in taking it apart just for the sake of pretending something major has happened. The X Fold6 sticks fairly close to its predecessor’s visual identity with a few carefully considered tweaks, featuring an enormous circular camera module on the rear. That defining feature protrudes considerably, making the phone wobble on a flat surface and giving your fingers a rather substantial obstacle to navigate. However, considering the photographic hardware Vivo has squeezed inside, some visual excess is understandable.

That is a measurable improvement, but unless you enjoy inspecting individual pixels for entertainment, you are unlikely to notice much difference in day-to-day use. The more meaningful adjustment is the aspect ratio moving closer to a square, giving the X Fold6 a little more horizontal room for multitasking, desktop-style websites, and split-screen applications, even though a 16:9 video occupies roughly 61% of the internal screen.

The compromise in the hand

The X Fold6 is heavier than some might prefer for extended one-handed reading sessions, and that extra weight is something you notice when using the device for hours at a stretch. The massive camera bump doesn't help either, making an otherwise comfortable grip feel a little awkward when your fingers rest against the protruding metal ring. Then there is the chipset question, as Vivo has gone with MediaTek instead of Qualcomm, which leaves open questions about how the processor handles sustained performance under heavy loads.

At 6.51 inches, the cover display is smaller on paper than last year’s panel, and its 1120 x 2528 resolution is lower.

Yet Vivo has shifted from a particularly tall 21:9 format to a more conventional 20:9 layout, resulting in a cover screen that is approximately 1.9mm wider and 1.4mm shorter than before. That extra width makes a practical difference when you are typing or navigating the interface while the phone is closed. How does that translate to real estate? It provides a marginally larger overall display area of 206.8 square centimetres on the internal panel, but the cover screen finally feels like a normal smartphone rather than a narrow remote control.

Editorial verdict

If you want the best cameras available on a folding device and care more about photographic output than saving a few grams of weight, the Vivo X Fold6 delivers where previous generations fell short. The extra mass and the wobbling camera island are annoying in daily use, but they buy you top-tier imaging hardware that traditional foldables usually ignore.

Where foldable phones once forced buyers to accept second-rate sensors for the sake of a flexible display, the Vivo X Fold6 puts a massive circular camera island front and center at the expense of everyday balance. Switching the cover screen to a 20:9 aspect ratio made the glass 1.9 mm wider than the previous narrow format, finally turning typing on the closed device into a normal smartphone experience. The tradeoff lands straight on the user's grip: the heavier body wobbles on flat surfaces and crowds the fingers with that protruding ring during one-handed use. Trading slim ergonomics for serious optics turns this folding flagship into a genuine workstation, provided your hands can stomach the bulk.
