Garmin Enduro 4: $900 for identical body and more storage

Out of 320 hours of maximum battery life promised by Garmin, most users will see far less unless they train under continuous direct sunlight. The $899.99 Enduro 4 recycles last year's titanium case while doubling storage to 64GB and speeding up map panning

Garmin released the Enduro 4 on October 6 with a US launch price of $899.99 and US orders opening on October 9. Sixty-four gigabytes of storage in a watch at that price is overkill for a jog around the block, but it actually saves the day when you need to load offline maps of three different regions at once without trimming your routes. If your older watch still functions without issues, you are looking at a device that charges the exact same price for the exact same 51mm titanium bezel and fiber-reinforced polymer case while pushing storage to 64GB and speeding up map panning by 30% through 50% more RAM.

Garmin is essentially selling the old housing and solar panel under the guise of a fresh flagship, making you pay extra for memory and software that do not change basic battery life on overcast days. According to Garmin's specifications, the watch delivers a staggering 320 hours of battery life in extended-battery activity mode with solar charging, but that figure assumes continuous exposure to 50,000-lux light for the entire duration. For a 90-day smartwatch rating, the company assumes all-day wear with three hours outside each day at 50,000 lux, which bears little resemblance to the gloomy reality of an actual ultra-marathon through shaded mountain passes.

Maps and Training Overhauls

Under the hood, the Enduro 4 packs 50% more RAM than the Enduro 3 and an updated map engine that rates map panning as 30% faster. Storage reaches 64GB for maps, music, and other data, while a new perspective view adds another way to look along the route to show nearby terrain and what lies ahead. At 51mm, the watch sits behind a Power Sapphire lens with a titanium bezel and a fiber-reinforced polymer case, weighing in at 66 grams—three grams above the Enduro 3's launch specification.

Training updates focus on terrain adaptation by bringing grade-adjusted pace workout targets and grade-adjusted rolling pace to help maintain intended effort on steep hills. Stamina zones, a stamina curve, expanded rucking tools to adjust pack weight during an activity, and indoor rowing VO2 max insights round out the software additions. Garmin Connect also pulls the longer adventure together afterward by grouping activities recorded over days, weeks, or months into one coherent story.

Should You Upgrade

For an Enduro 3 owner, faster map panning and terrain-aware workout targets are the primary reasons to take a closer look at the new hardware. Water resistance remains rated at 10 ATM, and a new ComfortFit fabric band adds QuickFit attachment alongside the built-in LED flashlight offering white and red light. However, the core trade-off remains tied to environmental luck: if your typical training route lacks relentless, direct sunlight, those headline solar endurance numbers will stay firmly out of reach.

That leaves you paying eight hundred ninety-nine dollars and ninety-nine cents mostly for extra storage space and a faster map engine inside an identical physical shell. Sixty-six grams.

Editorial analysis

The new watch delivers a massive sixty-four gigabytes of storage to hold offline maps for three regions at once, yet it arrives in the exact same fiber-reinforced polymer case with a 51 mm titanium bezel. Garmin introduced the Enduro 4 on 6 October for $899.99, putting it on sale on 9 October. In late August we reported that Garmin held the starting price at $1,000 for the Fenix 9 to offer a 3,000-nit sapphire OLED screen. They pitched a major leap for ultramarathoners, yet delivered an identical shell with expanded storage at the old price point.
