An official firmware release can brick a handheld gaming PC in seconds without any user error. Lenovo has acknowledged that its latest BIOS update disables Legion Go handhelds, transforming an $800 portable computer into an unresponsive piece of plastic.

The dangerous 'Update' button

Turning the device into a brick takes just a standard update prompt. A user accepts the routine firmware installation, the console reboots, and it never powers back on. Reviving the device at home is impossible: the software crash completely corrupts the basic input/output system (BIOS), bricking the hardware.

In the Windows handheld PC market, the line between a stable release and raw code remains dangerously thin. Hardware makers push system patches to the public without adequate testing, treating everyday buyers like unpaid beta testers. The only way to safeguard your device right now is to open the proprietary Legion Space utility and manually disable automatic system updates until a verified fix arrives.
