70 SOC AI Vendors Face Free Competition as SCALR AI Hits Azure Marketplace

Security Risk Advisors released SCALR AI as a zero-dollar deployment on Azure Marketplace to replace six-figure commercial SOC subscriptions. The self-hosted platform runs Tier-1 triage and autonomous agent pipelines inside private enterprise tenants, trading vendor markups for raw token compute.

Security teams surveying the current market face an absurdly crowded field of over 70 commercial SOC AI platforms, almost all pushing six-figure annual subscriptions. Security Risk Advisors, the consultancy behind the open-source VECTR framework, is taking direct aim at this vendor rent-seeking by launching SCALR AI with a zero-dollar license on Azure Marketplace. The objective is unmistakable: eliminate protracted procurement cycles and cut out predatory software markups for baseline Tier-1 automation.

As Tim Wainwright, CEO of Security Risk Advisors, argued, security teams gain little by renting another proprietary wrapper when low-code architecture lets them own their operational workflows.

"There’s never been 70 choices for anything in cyber and there’s no reason that any of them should win because of big marketing budgets."

By packaging SCALR AI as a native Azure deployment, the firm effectively cuts out middleman licensing, daring SOC leads to replace bloated enterprise contracts with self-hosted agent pipelines.

Tenant-Side Infrastructure and Model Routing

SCALR AI deploys inside the enterprise's own Azure private tenant rather than an external SaaS silo, keeping telemetry, prompt logs, and incident data strictly within corporate security perimeters. Out of the box, the system executes incident triage, context enrichment, and autonomous quality reviews, while allowing security engineers to chain multi-agent tools and MCP servers across vulnerability management, threat hunting, and automated phishing analysis.

There is, however, no such thing as free compute. The economic burden simply shifts from vendor software fees to raw cloud infrastructure and LLM token usage billed by Microsoft. Unchecked autonomous loops can burn budget rapidly, which is why the platform integrates granular cost-tracking per agent, workflow, and model. By supporting dynamic model routing across existing enterprise API keys, engineering teams can dispatch lightweight models for routine triage and reserve frontier reasoning models for critical escalations, keeping operational bills well below rigid enterprise vendor tiers.

Automated Agents Over Interactive Prompts

Unlike chat-heavy copilot interfaces that demand constant manual prompting, SCALR AI orchestrates autonomous digital workers triggered by SIEM alerts, raw telemetry events, or cron schedules. The structural advantage is persistence: automated logic lives inside documented repository workflows rather than walking out the door whenever detection engineers switch jobs.

Yet handing autonomous execution to agentic workflows in production environments introduces distinct operational hazards. Without strict guardrails, unmonitored agents risk firing erroneous automated containments or flooding downstream ticketing queues. For CISOs, the trade-off is clear: SCALR AI kills recurring software licensing, but it demands disciplined infrastructure governance to prevent unexpected Azure invoices and uncontrolled production drift.
