oogle is finally letting you decide what happens when you snap your fingers together on the Pixel Watch 5. While the Pixel Watch 4 locked the double pinch gesture strictly into snoozing alarms and basic toggles—lagging behind the granular flexibility Apple Watch users have enjoyed for cycles—the new model actually lets you remap that motion. As 9to5Google reported, the gesture expands into day-to-day pinch points like media playback and incoming notifications.
Under Settings > Gestures > Hand gestures, the new "Customize actions" menu organizes controls into dedicated categories. Media playback can now be reassigned from a default play/pause to skipping tracks, and alarms can finally be toggled between snooze and an outright dismiss. From the primary watch face, the pinch can either open an active notification or scroll through the tray. Google has also tweaked At a Glance media controls with an optional "Icon and text" view showing track titles, though the expanded font easily crowds out minimal watch faces.
Giving users granular control over one-handed gestures makes the hardware far more practical when cooking, carrying groceries, or running. However, remapping an alarm to dismiss entirely with a micro-movement raises the stakes: one half-asleep reflex could silence your morning wake-up call before you even open your eyes. Reliable micro-motion detection without phantom triggers in everyday wear will make or break this feature, but giving users control over these defaults fixes an ergonomic oversight that should have been solved from day one.
