Enthusiast Available_System_401 on Reddit managed to flash postmarketOS Linux onto Apple’s decade-old smartphone, booting up a functional graphical desktop right on the screen. It is an undeniably clever hardware revival that drags an obsolete phone out of electronic purgatory, but do not expect it to replace your daily pocket communicator.

The real entry fee here is patience. Getting the Linux distribution configured and fully booted required about three and a half hours of tedious manual tinkering. While postmarketOS officially lists the iPhone 6S as compatible and offers wiki guides, the hardware and software trade-offs are immediately obvious. Crucial smartphone features fall short and mainstream mobile apps will not run, turning the device into a lightweight terminal or mini-server rather than a usable phone freed from Apple's ecosystem.
