Honor Play 11 — 8300 mAh battery and water resistance for $210

Honor launched the Play 11 with a massive 8300 mAh battery and industrial-grade water protection in a slim body. It costs from $210, but you will have to put up with a noticeably grainy low-resolution screen.

The Chinese market just got a rare gadget for anyone tired of living next to a wall outlet: Honor has launched the Play 11 smartphone with a monumental 8300 mAh battery (that is roughly twice the capacity of a standard flagship phone). The base version with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage costs 1,400 yuan, which translates to about $210. The 8 GB / 128 GB configuration goes for 1,449 yuan ($215), and the 8 GB / 256 GB variant will set you back 1,749 yuan ($260). Despite this massive power pack inside, the engineers managed to keep the body thickness at just 8.3 mm with a weight of 216.5 grams, and a 45-watt wired charger is included to top it all back up.

The biggest surprise in the design is the maximum IP69K dust and water resistance rating (protection against high-pressure, high-temperature water jets). Usually, this level of durability is reserved for chunky, niche rugged bricks built for construction sites and extreme environments, but here it has been packed into a civilian and relatively sleek case. Rounding out the specs are a 50-megapixel main camera and a fresh software foundation running Android 16 with MagicOS 10.0.

Miracles don't happen without brutal cost-cutting, and this model sacrificed the most noticeable thing. The 6.87-inch screen supports a smooth 120 Hz refresh rate (making scrolling feel fluid), but its resolution has been slashed to a modest 1592 by 720 pixels—meaning individual pixels are easy to spot with the naked eye at this size. Performance comes from a basic Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 processor. What you end up with is a blunt, utilitarian tool for anyone who cares more about forgetting the charger for several days than anything else, while the creators clearly figured that a sharp display and mobile gaming are entirely useless for the owner of a rugged phone.
